• What is AusVaxSafety doing for COVID-19 vaccine safety surveillance?

  AusVaxSafety is conducting comprehensive active safety monitoring of COVID-19 vaccines that are being used in Australia. This is to promote clinician and consumer confidence in the vaccination program.

• How does AusVaxSafety monitor the safety of COVID-19 vaccines?

  In partnership with the Australian state and territory health departments, AusVaxSafety is following up people who receive a COVID-19 vaccine by sending them an SMS or email with a short survey that asks if they experienced any adverse event following vaccination (AEFI).

• How can I get involved in COVID-19 active vaccine safety surveillance?

  If you are receiving the COVID vaccine at a state immunisation clinic (hub) or in one of the >300 sites already participating in active surveillance, you will have the opportunity to participate in COVID-19 vaccine safety surveillance.

  If you are a GP, you can get involved in this surveillance by installing the SmartVax software program in your practice. Find out more here. You can also register your interest in participation at www.smartvax.com.au

  If you are an immunisation provider other than GP, you may still be able to get involved in COVID-19 vaccine safety monitoring. Please contact AusVaxSafety on schn-ausvaxsafety@health.nsw.gov.au and we can help determine which tool is most suitable for your clinical practice setting and software.

• Where can I find the safety data collected by AusVaxSafety?

  AusVaxSafety has commenced routine monitoring of the safety of COVID-19 vaccines in individuals aged 16 years and older. COVID-19 vaccine safety results will be updated weekly and available here.
• How do I report an adverse event following my COVID-19 vaccine?

  Anyone can report an adverse event following immunisation (AEFI) through the national passive surveillance system. Please refer to TGA website for ways to report AEFIs.
